Description:
The technique used in this painting for the screw, the torn paper and wall's rendition was employed in the time of the ancient Roman Empire. It is now called "Trompe-l'oeil" and means the painting is no longer flat, which allows the observer to believe he can actually hold or touch the object within the painting. It allows the artist to play with textures, contrasts in a hyper-realsitic sense. In this case, it is the interpretation of the concrete wall with its imperfections and smoothness, the cold metallic screw and the ragged wall.
