The special feature of this painting is its composition : a vertical triptych conceived as a Totem by the sea. This is the second, middle panel. 
 
This is a hyper-realistic painting : extreme realism in the rendering of the objects of the painting. The illusion that the observer can actually hold the object within the painting : the smooth pebbles laying on top of one of the two piers, where they keep a precarious balance..
 
The whole composition inspires peace, serenity and a breezy feeling despite the glared, blue sky and the perception of heat reflected on the work of the stones.
